Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Verdict For Indiana Jones On Switch 2
Digital Foundry has released its technical analysis of the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the verdict is positive. Developer MachineGames has achieved an impressive visual experience despite the hardware constraints of the portable console.
The game targets 30 frames per second on Switch 2, a deliberate choice that prioritizes visual quality over raw performance. This decision allows MachineGames to implement sophisticated graphical features that create a more authentic experience comparable to home console versions.
The Switch 2 port includes several advanced technologies that would typically be expected only on more powerful hardware. These include proper strand-based hair technology for realistic character models, impressive screen-space reflections for environmental detail, and contact shadows for enhanced lighting accuracy. Notably, ray-traced global illumination (RTGI) is present in the Switch 2 version, with performance metrics occasionally matching and even exceeding the capabilities of the Xbox Series S in certain scenarios.
To fit the ambitious scope onto a 64GB cartridge, MachineGames made strategic compromises, particularly with texture fidelity. Despite these necessary concessions, Digital Foundry commends the port for maintaining visual integrity while demonstrating technical competence in the optimization process.
