Manchester Games Network launches to put UK region ‘back on the games map’
Manchester Games Network (MGN), a newly launched industry organization, aims to support and advocate for game developers operating in Greater Manchester. The initiative seeks to consolidate the region’s position as a leading cluster for game development on both national and global scales.
The organization was officially launched at an event hosted at the Manchester offices of Cloud Imperium Games, the studio behind the ambitious space MMO Star Citizen. This location choice highlights the continued presence of major development talent in the region.
Founded by a group of industry veterans, MGN addresses a concern within the local development community: while talented developers have remained in Greater Manchester, the region has lost visibility and prominence as a games development hub. One board member noted that “the talent never went away, but we certainly lost the share of voice we should have as a games city.”
The network brings together industry expertise, including legal professionals like Laura Harper, a partner in the Digital, Commerce & Creative team at a leading UK law firm. MGN represents a coordinated effort to restore Manchester’s standing within the global games industry and provide advocacy and support services for local development studios and professionals.
