Prepare for Marathon’s first major progress wipe as Bungie announces season 2 start date and details
Bungie has announced that Marathon’s second season, titled “Nightfall,” will launch on June 2nd, bringing the game’s first major progress reset. When Season 2 begins, players’ runner levels, ranked levels, vault and loadout contents, credits, schemas, faction levels and upgrades, and priority contracts will all reset to zero, giving the entire playerbase a synchronized fresh start.
The developer is preserving certain investments to balance the reset. Players will retain all earned and purchased cosmetics, codex entries, access to unlocked factions, LUX and Silk currency, and will see vault storage increases. An interim update, version 1.0.9, arrives on May 19th with end-of-season challenges before the full reset.
The reset is framed within the game’s narrative: the UESC military force is cracking down on runners’ criminal activities across Tau Ceti with renewed security efforts, introducing what Bungie calls “liberated chaos” for Season 2. This reset establishes Bungie’s approach to seasonal transitions in the live-service shooter, demonstrating an intent to provide fresh starts while respecting player cosmetic and currency investments.
