You’ll be able to see the live-action Legend of Zelda film sooner than expected, as release date gets moved up

Nintendo has announced an accelerated release date for its upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. The film will now arrive in theaters on April 30, 2027, one week earlier than the previously scheduled May 7, 2027 release date.

The announcement was made by legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto via the company’s X account. Miyamoto stated that “the team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible,” noting there is less than a year until release.

This marks the third adjustment to the film’s release timeline. The project was originally scheduled for March 2027 before being pushed back to May 7, 2027 last year for “production reasons.” The latest change represents a significant shift, bringing the release forward rather than delaying it further.

Filming for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie took place in New Zealand and wrapped earlier in 2026. Nintendo has not provided a specific reason for the accelerated date, though the company’s messaging suggests confidence in the project’s progress and readiness for an earlier theatrical debut.
