The Analogue 3D is finally getting save states

The Analogue 3D, a 4K upscaling clone of the Nintendo 64, has received a new firmware update that introduces the long-awaited Memories save state feature. This capability allows players to save their progress at any point during gameplay and resume from that exact moment, rather than relying on traditional save systems that require reaching specific save points within games.

The Memories feature was previously introduced with Analogue’s handheld console, the Analogue Pocket, and has now been extended to their home console offering. This update addresses a notable gap in the Analogue 3D’s feature set, particularly benefiting players who use original or wired N64 controllers. The Virtual Controller Pak option, which provides additional storage functionality through the console’s virtual controller interface, remains unavailable for physical controller users, making the save state feature an important workaround for improving the overall user experience.

The addition of save states represents a significant quality-of-life improvement for retro gaming enthusiasts, as it provides modern conveniences while preserving the authentic N64 experience. By allowing players to save at any moment, the feature makes classic N64 games more accessible and less frustrating, particularly for those tackling challenging titles or replaying beloved classics.

The firmware update demonstrates Analogue’s ongoing commitment to improving its hardware offerings through software updates, ensuring that the Analogue 3D remains a compelling option for players seeking authentic 4K N64 emulation with modern conveniences.
