“Sometimes all it really takes is one very bad commute” - the Saros team reveal the surprising origins of Arjun’s angry delivery

Voice actor Rahul Kohli has revealed the surprisingly relatable origin story behind Arjun Devraj’s distinctive angry delivery in Saros, Sony and Housemarque’s PS5 exclusive game. According to details shared in the first episode of a behind-the-scenes documentary about the game’s creation, the character’s memorable vocal performance emerged from a particularly stressful day during production.

Kohli explained that Housemarque needed to record a teaser trailer quickly, but the timing coincided with his own travel plans. With the studio set to lose access to the actor for six months, Kohli found himself racing against the clock. He had to record the trailer on the opposite side of Los Angeles while simultaneously trying to catch a flight, a combination that left him stuck in traffic and increasingly frustrated.

Rather than waiting for a more convenient recording session, Kohli proceeded with the voiceover work while still worked up and angry from the commute. That raw emotional state directly influenced his performance, resulting in a notably intense and heated delivery for the teaser trailer. The unexpected result resonated with the creative team, and Arjun’s characteristically angry voice became a defining feature of the protagonist.

The anecdote highlights how organic, unplanned moments can sometimes create the most memorable character elements. Arjun Devraj’s voice now joins other instantly recognisable video game character performances, such as Geralt from The Witcher and Kratos from God of War. The full story is featured in Sony and Housemarque’s behind-the-scenes documentary series focused on Saros’ creation.
