Everything Coming To Subnautica 2 Early Access: Co-Op, Sprinting, And New Gameplay Systems

Subnautica 2 has launched into early access on PC and Xbox Series X|S with exceptional commercial success, selling over 2 million copies within its first 12 hours. Following its strong debut, developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has released its first early access roadmap detailing planned updates for the underwater survival adventure.

The roadmap prioritizes iterative improvements over time. The initial update will focus on quality-of-life enhancements, notably including a long-awaited sprint feature. A second update will specifically target co-op experience improvements, addressing multiplayer gameplay systems. Unknown Worlds has indicated that further updates will continue addressing smaller features and systems fixes before moving toward larger content expansions.

Future plans include substantial additions to the game world, with developers teasing new biomes, creatures, resources, tools, and vehicles, along with the next chapter of the story. However, Unknown Worlds emphasized that the roadmap is flexible and subject to change based on player feedback, choosing not to assign hard deadlines to updates at this early stage of early access.

The developer is adopting a cautious approach to expectations management, preferring iterative feedback from early access players over strict release schedules. This strategy allows the team to prioritize player-identified issues while building toward more ambitious content expansions. The game’s successful launch, which generated over 1 million sales in its first hour, positions Subnautica 2 as one of 2026’s major releases despite previous legal disputes between developer and publisher during development.
