Subnautica 2’s first update will add a sprint button, because players are building their bases too big: “they might want to go a little bit faster”
Subnautica 2 has launched on Steam Early Access, and Unknown Worlds has already outlined features for its first update. The update will introduce a sprint button that allows players to move faster through their bases, addressing feedback from players who have been constructing increasingly large underwater facilities. According to creative media producer Scott MacDonald, the sprint feature directly responds to player requests for increased mobility when navigating expansive player-built structures.
Beyond the sprint button, the inaugural patch will include several quality-of-life and social features. Proximity chat will enable nearby players to communicate more naturally, while co-op revives will allow teammates to assist each other in multiplayer sessions. The update will also add emotes for player expression and implement crafting system tweaks to refine the gameplay experience.
The early access launch has generated significant commercial interest, with publisher Krafton backing the game’s success following its immediate availability to players. MacDonald’s comments suggest Unknown Worlds is actively monitoring player feedback during early access, using the development period to refine core systems and respond to community needs before a full release.
