The movable Taskbar is back on Windows 11 — here is how to test it now

Microsoft is bringing back the movable Taskbar to Windows 11, a feature that Windows users have been requesting since the operating system’s launch. The company is currently testing this option with Windows Insiders, allowing users to test the feature before its broader release.

The ability to position the Taskbar on the side of the screen, rather than only at the bottom, was a standard feature in Windows for decades before being removed with Windows 11’s initial release. This removal was one of several controversial design decisions that drew criticism from longtime Windows users who preferred the flexibility of customizing their interface.

The latest Windows 11 Insider build reintroduces this capability, enabling users to move the Taskbar to the sides of their display. Beyond the repositionable Taskbar, the update also introduces the option to use a smaller, more compact version of the interface element, giving users additional customization choices.

The return of the movable Taskbar represents Microsoft’s response to persistent user feedback and reflects efforts to improve Windows 11’s usability. The feature’s reintroduction is expected to generate goodwill among Windows users who have long requested this basic customization option that was absent from Windows 11 at launch.
