The scariest scene in Obsession was written by the director’s dad
Curry Barker, a 27-year-old filmmaker making his directorial feature debut with horror film Obsession, enlisted his father to contribute to the project. Playwright Jeff Barker wrote a creepy scene that appears midway through the film, delivering what his son describes as “bloodcurdling” material. Jeff, who also appears in a small role, was exploring a potential career shift into screenwriting when the opportunity arose. According to Curry, his father possesses “a mind that lends itself well to that type of creepy stuff.” The film blends classic “be-careful-what-you-wish-for” storytelling reminiscent of The Monkey’s Paw with demonic horror elements. Barker brings experience from previous short horror works including The Chair and Milk & Cereal, and serves as writer, director, and editor on Obsession.
