Subnautica 2 Xbox players could eventually test new features early like Steam players

Subnautica 2 developers are exploring ways to give Xbox players the same early testing opportunities that Steam players currently enjoy. Currently, Steam players can access experimental branches to test new features before general release, but Xbox Game Preview titles don’t have this functionality. Unknown Worlds Entertainment is working toward solutions to enable this feature parity across platforms.

According to lead developer Anthony Gallegos, the challenge lies in maintaining simultaneous releases across all platforms—Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store—due to the game’s cross-play functionality. The team wants to ensure all players have feature parity while also providing early access testing opportunities to interested players on every platform.

This initiative reflects the growing importance of community feedback in game development, particularly for early-access and Game Preview titles. By allowing Xbox players the same experimental testing opportunities as PC players, Unknown Worlds can gather broader feedback and iterate on features more quickly across its player base.
