Lovecraft gets the Indiana Jones treatment in Call of the Elder Gods, but is something missing in this Call of the Sea sequel?

Call of the Elder Gods is the upcoming sequel to the well-received Call of the Sea, marking developer Out of the Blue’s third major title following 2023’s American Arcadia. The game adopts an Indiana Jones-style adventure aesthetic, incorporating ancient civilizations and Lovecraftian supernatural horror elements.

The game maintains its predecessor’s first-person narrative approach and puzzle-solving focus, with a leather-bound journal serving as a central story element. Despite the sequel’s expanded scope and bolder ambitions, the core narrative charm and deductive puzzle design that defined the original remain intact. Set considerably after the events of Call of the Sea, the game builds on Out of the Blue’s acclaimed formula, blending exploration, supernatural mystery, and environmental storytelling with classic adventure sensibilities.
