IDW Comics is bringing two iconic franchises together this summer with Sonic the Hedgehog X Godzilla, a five-issue limited series launching July 15 with pre-orders due by June 8. The crossover marks another adventure for the King of the Monsters, who has been notably active since IDW acquired the Godzilla license in 2020, previously battling characters like the Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles across various storylines.
The series will feature an ensemble cast including Sonic the Hedgehog alongside classic characters from the Sonic universe such as Amy, Knuckles, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow, alongside iconic kaiju including Mechagodzilla and Mothra. The creative team bringing this unlikely crossover to life consists of writer Nick Marino, artist Jack Lawrence, and colorist Reggie Graham.
The crossover continues IDW’s track record of creating imaginative team-ups and collaborations that blend disparate entertainment properties, demonstrating the continued popularity and licensing flexibility of both the Godzilla and Sonic franchises in the comic book medium.
