Terraria marks 70 million sales and 15th anniversary with a promise to “continue beyond” its next big update

Terraria, the acclaimed 2D sandbox survival game, has reached a major milestone as it celebrates its 15th anniversary. Developer Re-Logic announced that the game has sold 70 million copies across all platforms, making it one of the best-selling games of all time. The breakdown shows 39.6 million copies sold on Steam alone, 10.7 million on consoles combined, and 19.7 million on mobile platforms.

To mark the occasion, Re-Logic shared impressive engagement statistics. PC players log an average of 101 hours and 18 minutes in Terraria, reflecting the game’s exceptional staying power in an era when many players abandon games unfinished. The studio estimates approximately 461,000 people play on PC daily, demonstrating sustained interest nearly a decade and a half after launch.

The developer emphasized its commitment to the game’s future, pledging that “Terraria updates will continue beyond 1.4.6/Crossplay,” assuring players the world of Terraria will “remain vibrant.” To celebrate the anniversary, Re-Logic is releasing special items including a mysterious 15th anniversary collector’s edition and Terraria Design Works, a retrospective examining the game’s development history.

The game’s success has also fostered a thriving modding community. The open-source tModLoader, which enables player-created modifications, has been downloaded 12.3 million times on Steam—a testament to the passionate community that continues to expand Terraria’s content and longevity beyond the official updates.
