Cyclops is finally cool thanks to X-Men ‘97, Cosmic Invasion, and Marvel Rivals

Cyclops (Scott Summers) has historically struggled to achieve the compelling portrayal he deserves as one of the X-Men’s most interesting and complex characters. X-Men film adaptations, including those starring James Marsden and Tye Sheridan, failed to adequately develop his character, instead placing him in an awkward love triangle with Wolverine that has become infamous among fans. However, recent television and gaming adaptations are finally giving Cyclops the respect his character warrants. The acclaimed animated series X-Men ‘97 presents a stronger version of the character, while upcoming gaming projects including new DLC for Marvel Cosmic Invasion and the video games Marvel Rivals and Avengers: Doomsday (releasing later in 2026) showcase Cyclops in a much cooler and more compelling light. These recent adaptations successfully capture the character’s depth and appeal far better than previous film efforts, offering fans renewed appreciation for Scott Summers and what makes him a truly interesting figure in the Marvel universe.
