Slaying 2,401 treasure goblins is too many treasure goblins for Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred to handle, says bloodthirsty player who lost all their loot
A Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred player has discovered an unintended mechanic in the expansion’s new activity skill trees that breaks the game’s loot system. The skill tree customization allows players to modify dungeon types with various upgrades, including bonus loot and difficulty modifiers. One overlooked option enables enemies to respawn while certain shrine buffs remain active.
A player exploited this interaction to create a chain reaction of respawning treasure goblins, slaying 2,401 creatures in a single session. However, the game’s systems could not handle the unprecedented volume of loot generated by so many enemies, and the player lost all accumulated items from the exploit. The incident demonstrates both player creativity in discovering unintended mechanics and the technical limitations of the loot system when pushed to extreme scales.
Blizzard’s balance team likely did not anticipate such scenarios when designing the skill tree upgrades. The discovery has prompted the player to take a more conservative approach to future treasure goblin hunting.
