Dropout CEO Sam Reich explains the ‘paradox’ of Game Changer’s s8 premiere
Dropout.tv’s flagship comedy game show Game Changer premiered its eighth season on May 18 with an episode designed to test the boundaries of permissible content. The show, running since 2019, features a different game premise and mechanic in nearly every episode, ranging from riffs on existing game shows to wholly original concepts.
The Season 8 premiere, titled “Don’t Wake Standards & Practices,” takes inspiration from the classic board game Don’t Wake Daddy. Contestants Lou Wilson, Ally Beardsley, and Jeremy Culhane compete in a game challenging them to push the limits of what they can say and do without getting Dropout.tv fined or sued. The episode’s explicit premise includes activities that would normally violate corporate copyrights—including infringement on Disney, McDonald’s, and Nike intellectual property—as well as simulating workplace sexual harassment scenarios. By framing legally and socially risky behaviors as game mechanics, the episode functions as both comedy and commentary on the paradoxes inherent in content creation and platform liability.
Dropout CEO Sam Reich discussed what the company describes as the “paradox” of creating boundary-pushing comedy while managing the legal and financial risks such content entails.
