Extraction shooter spinoff EVE Vanguard will let you salvage ships destroyed in EVE Online, then flog the parts back to their owners
EVE Vanguard, an extraction shooter spinoff developed by Fenris Creations, is preparing for its first alpha playtest this summer. The game, originally announced nearly three years ago, was described as a “Shoot, Loot ’n’ Scoot” extraction experience that brings first-person shooter gameplay to the EVE Online universe.
The alpha test, titled Operation Avalon, is scheduled to run from July 7th through 20th. Fenris staff revealed the timeline at EVE FanFest, where they also committed to addressing previous criticism about the game’s gunplay mechanics, which players of earlier pre-alpha tests characterized as loose and floaty. The developer promises tightened shooting mechanics for the upcoming playtest.
A key feature linking EVE Vanguard to the broader EVE Online ecosystem is its salvage system. Players will be able to salvage ships destroyed in EVE Online, then resell those recovered parts back to their original owners—creating an economic bridge between the extraction shooter and the flagship MMO. This integration aims to give EVE Vanguard’s gameplay direct consequences within the larger EVE universe.
EVE Vanguard represents Fenris Creations’ latest iteration in attempting to create a successful first-person shooter counterpart to EVE Online. The studio, described as one of Iceland’s well-funded spinoffs, is positioning the extraction shooter as a new entry point into the EVE franchise while maintaining connections to the existing MMO’s economy and player base.
