GTA 6 Release Date About 18 Months Behind Original Target, Take-Two Boss Reveals, Suggesting Spring 2025 Was Once the Goal Internally
Grand Theft Auto VI’s development timeline has been significantly extended beyond what the public previously understood, according to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. The game is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, following multiple announced delays.
Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated sequel was initially announced for a fall 2025 release before being pushed to May 2026, and subsequently to its current November 2026 target. However, Zelnick revealed in a recent interview that the original internal schedule targeted spring 2025—approximately 18 months earlier than the current release date.
This disclosure indicates substantially longer development challenges than the public timeline suggests. While Take-Two has not detailed the specific reasons for the repeated delays, the significant gap between the internal target and current schedule underscores the complexity of producing a major AAA title. The extended development period reflects broader industry trends toward delaying major releases rather than launching with unfinished products.
