GTA 6 Originally Meant to Launch 18 Months Ago, But We’re Still Waiting for Trailer 3 and Pre-Orders
Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed by approximately 18 months from its originally planned release date, according to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. The game was initially slated to launch in spring 2025 but is now scheduled for November 19, 2025.
Zelnick made these comments during a podcast interview with David Senra, acknowledging that the title has experienced two delays during its development. He stated the game is “about 18 months behind the original date. Not much more than that,” indicating that while the delays have been significant, the project remains on track for its current target.
The revelation aligns with Rockstar Games’ public announcement timeline. GTA 6 was first announced alongside its debut trailer, which positioned spring 2025 as the launch window. However, as development progressed, Rockstar pushed back the release schedule, ultimately settling on the November 2025 date.
Despite the delays, anticipation for GTA 6 remains intense within the gaming community. Recent speculation has focused on pre-order availability, with reports suggesting that retailers like Best Buy may be preparing to open pre-orders imminently. Industry observers expect the game to generate unprecedented media coverage upon release, with Zelnick noting it will likely represent the largest media launch in entertainment history.
The extended development period has allowed Rockstar more time to refine the ambitious open-world title, which marks the next mainline entry in one of gaming’s most culturally significant franchises.
