PlayStation Console Owners Launch Class-Action Lawsuit Against Sony Over Tariff Refunds
PlayStation console owners have filed a class-action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment seeking refunds over tariff-related price increases. The case, Walker et al v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, was filed on May 6, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
The lawsuit, brought by plaintiffs Amorey Walker and Bryce Foster-Quarles, alleges that consumers are entitled to compensation after Sony allegedly received a “substantial windfall” from price hikes implemented in response to tariff policies. The plaintiffs claim that Sony passed tariff costs onto consumers through elevated PS5 pricing, then benefited financially when tariff circumstances changed without correspondingly reducing prices.
This action reflects broader consumer frustration with how major technology manufacturers have handled tariff-driven pricing. The case centers on whether Sony’s pricing decisions during the tariff period constitute unjust enrichment at the expense of PlayStation consumers who purchased consoles at inflated prices.
The lawsuit joins a growing trend of consumer class actions challenging corporate pricing practices during periods of economic disruption. If successful, the suit could require Sony to provide refunds to affected PS5 purchasers or establish settlement fund for eligible consumers. The case will now proceed through the federal court system, with discovery and potential settlement negotiations likely to follow.
