Sony announces price increase for new PlayStation Plus subscribers “due to ongoing market conditions”

Sony has announced price increases for PlayStation Plus subscriptions starting May 20, 2026, citing “ongoing market conditions” as the reason. The price hikes apply only to new customers in select regions, while current subscribers are largely protected from the increase—with the exception of customers in Turkey and India.

For the PlayStation Plus Essential tier, one-month subscriptions will increase by $1 (from $9.99 to $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP) and three-month subscriptions will rise by $3 (from $24.99 to $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP). Annual subscription pricing remains unchanged. The announcement did not specify whether higher tiers—PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium—would see similar increases.

Existing subscribers maintain their current rates unless their subscription lapses or changes, at which point they would be subject to the new pricing. Sony did not clarify which regions constitute the “select regions” affected, though references to USD, EUR, and GBP suggest North America, Europe, and the UK are included.

The price adjustment comes on the heels of Sony’s recent increase to PS5 console prices, meaning new PlayStation customers will face elevated costs for both hardware and subscription services. The move reflects broader industry trends of rising service costs amid inflationary pressures.
