Rumour: Watch Out PS2, Switch May Soon Get A Big Boost In India

Nintendo’s latest financial disclosures have revealed that the Switch console is rapidly approaching the PlayStation 2’s all-time sales record of 160 million units. While a price increase for Switch 2 in Western markets has received attention, a more significant development involves the original Switch’s potential expansion into new territories.

According to reporting from Day Zero Media, Nintendo may be preparing to launch the original Nintendo Switch in India during 2027, priced at 20,000 Indian rupees (approximately $240 USD). This move would represent the console’s official entry into the Indian market. The launch would feature only the original Switch model, excluding the Switch OLED variant, Switch Lite, and the upcoming Switch 2 successor.

The potential Indian launch could be strategically significant for Nintendo’s overall sales figures. With the Switch rapidly approaching the PS2’s lifetime sales milestone of 160 million units, market expansion into India’s large and growing gaming audience may provide the additional sales volume needed to eventually surpass the PlayStation 2’s historic record. India represents one of the world’s largest emerging gaming markets, with increasing smartphone adoption and growing console gaming interest.
