Obituary: Veteran voice actor Tom Kane has passed away at 64

Tom Kane, a legendary voice actor who shaped gaming and animation for over three decades, has passed away at age 64. Kane died on May 18 from complications stemming from a stroke he suffered in 2020, with his family present at a Kansas City hospital.

Kane’s voice became iconic across major franchises, most notably Star Wars, where he provided the voice for Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and reprised the role in numerous other Star Wars media, including Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Beyond Yoda, his Star Wars work included voicing C-3PO, Boba Fett, Admiral Ackbar, and Qui-Gon Jinn. In Call of Duty, Kane was the original voice of Takeo Masaki in Call of Duty Zombies, maintaining the role from World at War through Black Ops 4.

Kane’s prolific career extended well beyond these major franchises. He lent his distinctive voice to animated series including Powerpuff Girls, Marvel properties, documentaries, and countless video games throughout his tenure in the industry spanning more than 30 years. His talent agency, Galactic Productions, remembered him as “a legendary voice actor whose work shaped the childhoods and imaginations of millions around the world.”

Kane had retired from voice acting in 2021, following his stroke the previous year. Despite stepping away from active work, his legacy endures through the countless characters and projects he brought to life, leaving an indelible mark on gaming and animation.
