Warhammer 40,000 Confirms Ready-Painted Terrain for 11th Edition, but Games Workshop Rules Out Ready-Painted Miniatures

Games Workshop has confirmed plans to introduce ready-painted terrain for Warhammer 40,000’s 11th Edition, titled Armageddon, launching in June. This marks a significant shift from the company’s historical practice of selling unpainted terrain alongside the tabletop wargame.

The announcement follows leaks of the initiative, which sparked widespread speculation that Games Workshop would also offer ready-painted miniatures. The company has now explicitly ruled out pre-painted models, limiting the new pre-painted offerings to terrain pieces only.

The decision to sell painted terrain appears designed to lower the barrier to entry for new players. Painting terrain has traditionally been secondary to miniature painting for most players, and offering complete, ready-to-use terrain solutions could streamline setup and reduce initial investment requirements for competitive play.

The move represents a notable product strategy shift for Warhammer 40,000 under its new edition, reflecting Games Workshop’s broader efforts to make the game more accessible to both experienced veterans and prospective players entering the hobby.
