Struggling Witcher spinoff brings acclaimed Destiny 2 narrative veteran onboard as new lead writer

Project Sirius, CD Projekt Red’s Witcher spinoff game announced in October 2022, has brought on a notable industry veteran as its new lead writer. Kwan Perng, a senior narrative designer from Bungie, has joined the project to lead its narrative direction. Perng is best known for his work as narrative lead on The Final Shape, the critically acclaimed final expansion for Destiny 2.

Perng spent approximately four years at Bungie, contributing to the post-launch narrative development of Destiny 2. During his tenure, he worked on multiple expansions including Shadowkeep and Beyond Light, establishing himself as an accomplished writer in the live-service gaming space.

The appointment comes as Project Sirius has faced challenges since its announcement. The spinoff, part of CD Projekt Red’s broader expansion of the Witcher franchise, has not advanced as quickly as initially expected. The addition of Perng’s expertise in crafting compelling narratives for large-scale games suggests the developer is seeking to strengthen the project’s storytelling approach.

Perng announced his new position on LinkedIn before sharing updates via social media platform X in recent weeks. The hire represents a significant move for the project, bringing proven narrative experience from one of the industry’s leading live-service titles to the struggling Witcher spinoff.
