Log On To Fortnite To Watch 12 Minutes Of The Mandalorian And Grogu

The Mandalorian and Grogu is launching as the first Star Wars theatrical film since 2019, starring Pedro Pascal reprising his role from the Disney+ series. The film is estimated to earn $80–100 million domestically during the Memorial Day weekend opening, comparable to 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Disney and Lucasfilm are deploying multiple marketing strategies to drive interest. In Fortnite, Disney has partnered with Epic Games to create a Watch Party Island in the Discover section, allowing players to view the first 12 minutes of the film. The promotional map, set on the planet Nevarra from the series, includes quests such as fetch missions and stormtrooper combat encounters—similar in structure to Lego Fortnite Brick Life.

The film serves as the theatrical entry point to the “Mandoverse,” a budding timeline set between the original and sequel trilogies. As such, it may include a post-credits scene to hint at future installments either on the big screen or in Ahsoka season 2 on Disney+.

However, the franchise faces headwinds. Industry reports indicate that Star Wars “isn’t resonating with younger moviegoers like it did for older generations,” raising questions about the property’s cultural staying power. Despite these concerns, Lucasfilm reportedly believes that next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter has stronger potential for franchise revival.

The multi-platform promotion strategy—combining theatrical release with streaming content, live-service gaming tie-ins, and interconnected storytelling—reflects Disney’s broader approach to the Star Wars franchise: creating multiple entry points and engagement opportunities across its media ecosystem.
