Metaphor ReFantazio and all games leaving Xbox Game Pass in May

Xbox Game Pass announced that two Atlus role-playing games will leave the service on May 31st. The most prominent departure is Metaphor: ReFantazio, a sprawling RPG that shares design similarities with the Persona series. In the game’s narrative, a king is assassinated and a tournament is held to determine his successor, with players taking the role of a throne candidate.

The removal comes after Xbox reduced Game Pass subscription prices in April and added several notable titles throughout May, including Forza Horizon 6 and the indie game Mixtape. Other departures earlier in the month included Planet of Lana. This illustrates the rotating nature of Game Pass’ library, where titles regularly arrive and depart based on licensing agreements.

The loss of Metaphor: ReFantazio represents a significant departure for subscribers given the game’s quality and depth. The May 31st departure date gives players a final window to either purchase the title or finish their Game Pass playthrough before access is lost.
