I just learnt I’ve been playing Metal Gear Solid 3 with a broken camera for 15 years
A major issue with Metal Gear Solid 3’s camera has been identified by the MGSHDFix modding team, affecting players for over a decade. The problem originates from Bluepoint Games’ 2011 HD remaster, which served as the basis for Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 released in 2023. Players who adopted the Bluepoint versions—whether through the original 2011 release or the recent Master Collection—have been experiencing the broken camera without knowing it was faulty.
Afevis Solmunko, lead developer of MGSHDFix, announced an upcoming fix specifically for MGS3’s Master Collection version. This follows the modding team’s previous success in uncovering and correcting a third-person perspective issue in Metal Gear Solid 2. The MGSHDFix project has become instrumental in preserving the accuracy of these classic stealth games, addressing technical problems that the official remasters failed to catch or correct.
The discovery highlights ongoing preservation challenges in gaming, where long-standing versions can accumulate and perpetuate bugs across multiple releases. For players who skipped the original PS2 version and experienced only the Bluepoint HD editions, this revelation means their entire experience of MGS3 has been compromised by a fundamental camera malfunction. The community-driven fix represents another step in restoring Metal Gear Solid games to their intended state.
