Open-world action RPG Outward 2 sets summer early access release with a “potato specs” gameplay trailer starring a talking tuber

Outward 2, the upcoming survival action RPG from developer Nine Dots Studio, will launch in early access on July 7, 2026, across Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG (PC platforms only). The sequel to the original Outward, which sold over 1 million copies, aims to build on that success with improved gameplay and exploration in an open world.

The game’s most distinctive marketing angle is its accessibility: Nine Dots has included a “potato specs” graphics preset that runs the game on hardware far below typical minimum requirements. In a humorous trailer featuring a talking potato character, the studio demonstrated that players with older systems—such as a GeForce GTX 750 Ti with just 8GB of RAM—can still enjoy the game, while those with high-end rigs will access maximum visual quality.

Like its predecessor, Outward 2 positions players not as chosen heroes but as ordinary adventurers struggling to survive in a harsh world. The game emphasizes co-op gameplay and exploration.

Prior to the early access launch, Nine Dots will hold a closed beta from May 26 to June 8, 2026, allowing the developer to gather community feedback before the full early access period begins.
