Paralives looks packed with tiny features I’ve been desperately wanting in The Sims for years
Paralives is set to enter early access on May 25, following a year-long delay from its originally planned 2025 release. Ahead of the launch, Paralives Studio released an extensive gameplay trailer showcasing approximately nine minutes of daily life gameplay, directly positioning the game as a competitor to The Sims 4.
The trailer highlights a distinctive character creation system where players distribute personality points across four categories—charisma, creativity, physique, and mind—to define their character’s core traits, supplemented by micro-adjustable customization options like height. The game emphasizes quality-of-life features that longtime Sims players have requested for years but never received in the franchise.
Paralives includes familiar life simulation mechanics: skill progression systems that unlock job opportunities, household management with personality-driven interactions, and tools allowing players to modify furniture directly within the game. The experience begins with players encountering pre-made households aboard a train, with the option to create custom households and characters from scratch.
The feature set is strategically designed to address long-standing gaps in The Sims franchise. Multiple observers note that many of Paralives’ highlighted systems represent improvements to features that have been absent or limited in The Sims for years. The early access launch provides the indie studio’s first major opportunity for players to experience the full scope of its design philosophy, with the game positioned as a genuine alternative to the dominant life simulation franchise.
