Plex Announces Massive Price Hike on Lifetime Subscription Plans
Plex announced a significant price increase to its Lifetime Plex Pass subscription, effective July 1, 2026. The lifetime plan price will triple from $249.99 to $749.99, a 200% increase that applies only to new subscribers. Existing lifetime customers will retain their current pricing with no changes to their accounts.
The company’s monthly ($2.99/month) and annual ($69.99/year) subscription tiers remain unaffected by the adjustment. The Lifetime Plex Pass has traditionally offered a one-time upfront payment for indefinite access to personal Plex server features without recurring charges.
In announcing the change, Plex acknowledged it had considered eliminating the Lifetime Plex Pass entirely, citing the superior recurring revenue generated by monthly and annual subscription models. The significant price increase appears designed to encourage new users toward recurring subscription plans rather than one-time lifetime purchases, reflecting broader industry trends in subscription-based monetization strategies.
