Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Switch 2 Update Adds “TressFX”
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has received a significant graphical update on Nintendo Switch 2, with developer and publisher Aspyr adding support for TressFX technology. TressFX is an advanced rendering system designed to simulate and display high-quality, realistic hair and fur in real-time, enhancing the visual fidelity of character models.
The update was released this week and brings the Switch 2 version of the remastered game in line with enhanced visual standards. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition previously launched on the Nintendo eShop and has been receiving ongoing updates from Aspyr to improve the overall experience. This latest TressFX implementation allows protagonist Lara Croft’s hair to be rendered with greater detail and realism.
According to Aspyr’s announcement, the studio emphasized the cosmetic benefits of the technology with a lighthearted statement about ensuring Lara maintains high visual standards even during stealth sequences through muddy environments. The update includes before-and-after video comparisons demonstrating the visual differences TressFX provides.
The addition of TressFX to the Switch 2 version represents Aspyr’s commitment to leveraging the hardware capabilities of Nintendo’s latest console. The technology has become increasingly common in modern game ports and remasters, allowing developers to modernize classic titles with contemporary visual enhancements.
