Brandon Sanderson Says He’ll Start Working on His Mistborn Era 3 Book Again in July
Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has announced plans to resume work on Ghostbloods, the third book in his Mistborn Era 3 series, beginning in July. The author explained in a recent YouTube update that he’s currently prioritizing other projects, including active development on the Mistborn television adaptation for Apple TV and various board game adaptations.
Ghostbloods is scheduled for publication in December 2028, with a manuscript deadline of December 2026—approximately seven months from Sanderson’s announcement. Despite this timeline, Sanderson indicated the project is not yet under immediate time pressure, allowing him flexibility to focus on his other creative endeavors in the near term.
Sanderson remains exceptionally prolific across multiple media formats, continuing to produce weekly podcast content and audience updates alongside his screenplay and adaptation work. The author is known for maintaining transparency with his fanbase about project timelines and production schedules. His acknowledgment that he warned audiences about his divided attention between writing and other media projects reflects his established practice of setting clear expectations about book release schedules.
