The Mass Effect-like Exodus ‘is effectively D&D in space,’ Hasbro CEO says
Exodus, a space opera RPG in development at Archetype Studios, has drawn comparisons to Mass Effect based on its visual presentation and gameplay teasers. In a recent interview with The Game Business, however, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks offered a different characterization of the game.
Cocks described Exodus as “effectively D&D in space,” emphasizing that while it represents new intellectual property for Hasbro, it operates within the company’s area of expertise. The CEO highlighted Hasbro’s extensive experience with role-playing games and its established track record in developing successful titles within the genre.
The characterization reflects Hasbro’s positioning of Exodus as a flagship project that leverages the company’s deep expertise in RPG development. While PC Gamer’s initial assessments focused on similarities to BioWare’s acclaimed Mass Effect franchise, Hasbro’s framing suggests the game will develop its own identity rooted in D&D’s tabletop traditions and gameplay design principles rather than directly emulate Mass Effect’s space opera formula.
