Why Manchester City Entered Rocket League After 10 Years in Esports

Manchester City, the Premier League football club, has announced its entry into Rocket League esports after a decade focused primarily on FIFA/EA FC competitions. The club is making its competitive debut at the RLCS Paris Major LAN event, marking a significant expansion of its esports operations.

As part of this initiative, Manchester City has signed Enzo ‘Seikoo’ Grondein, a former Rocket League world champion, signaling serious investment in the competitive title. According to Michael Russel, head of production and esports lead at Manchester City, the move represents a “statement of intent” for the organization.

Rocket League represents a more demanding esports title than FIFA/FC, requiring greater operational and financial investment from competing organizations. The decision to enter the competitive scene after 10 years of primarily FIFA/FC involvement suggests Manchester City is diversifying its esports portfolio and committing to a more prominent title within the industry.

The Paris Major marks a milestone for the club, bringing their esports presence to a global competitive stage in one of Rocket League’s premier international tournaments.
