Microsoft plans to launch a cheaper 8 GB Surface laptop later this year which won’t meet the requirements of a Copilot+ PC
Microsoft announced plans to release new Surface Pro and Surface laptop models powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors later this year. The company claims the new devices will deliver up to 35% more graphics performance than MacBook Air with M5 chips and up to 90% faster performance compared to the previous Surface 5 generation. The 13-inch non-Pro Surface models will target both premium and budget segments.
However, Microsoft plans to offer a cheaper variant with 8 GB of RAM that will not meet Copilot+ PC requirements, the company’s standard for AI-capable devices. This positioning suggests a clear market segmentation, with the base 8 GB model serving cost-conscious consumers while higher-spec versions cater to users seeking advanced AI integration through Copilot features.
