Quantic Dream’s multiplayer game Spellcasters Chronicles is being shut down and the studio reorganised, but Star Wars Eclipse is unaffected

French game developer Quantic Dream is shutting down Spellcasters Chronicles, its first live-service multiplayer game, just three months after launching in early access in February 2026. The free-to-play MOBA with deckbuilding mechanics failed to build a sustainable player base, peaking at 888 concurrent players at launch before declining to roughly 50-100 daily players. Steam user reviews remain mixed, and the studio stated the game “had not reached the audience it needed to sustain it long-term.”

The servers will close on June 19, 2026, with Quantic Dream promising refunds for players who spent money on the game. The shutdown is accompanied by an internal studio reorganization, signaling potential layoffs. Reports from April 2026 indicated that Quantic Dream was relying on Spellcasters Chronicles’ revenue to fund Star Wars Eclipse, the studio’s long-in-development action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.

However, Quantic Dream confirmed that Star Wars Eclipse development “continues as planned” and remains unaffected by the closure. The studio, best known for acclaimed single-player narrative-driven games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, did not provide details about the scope or timeline of the internal reorganization.
