Returnal director and Housemarque veteran Harry Krueger launches Finland-based game studio Cosmic Division
Harry Krueger, the director of the acclaimed 2021 PS5 exclusive Returnal, has announced the formation of Cosmic Division, a new independent game studio based in Finland. Krueger departed Housemarque in 2023 after nearly 15 years with the PlayStation-owned developer, where he contributed to multiple titles including Outland, Resogun, Nex Machina, and early stages of Saros.
Now serving as founder and CEO, Krueger is establishing Cosmic Division with a focus on crafting “gameplay-first experiences” with strong atmospheric and narrative elements. The studio’s debut project will be a single-player IP designed for PC and console platforms, described as an “unapologetically gameplay-first experience” with “a story with strong emotional resonance.”
The Finnish studio operates with a “lean-and-mean” philosophy, starting as a compact team rather than a large operation. Krueger expressed gratitude toward Housemarque, stating the company “shaped the foundations for our new studio,” while emphasizing Cosmic Division’s aim to build on years of experience with award-winning action games while establishing its own distinct identity.
