Samsung unveils “industry-first” 6K gaming monitor with 165Hz refresh rate and DisplayPort 2.1

Samsung has announced the industry’s first 6K gaming monitor, expanding its Odyssey product line with four new models featuring different display technologies. The flagship Odyssey G8 G80HS is a 32-inch Fast IPS monitor with a 6144×3456 resolution and 165Hz refresh rate—a significant step up from the 60Hz standard for monitors at this resolution. The monitor also supports dual-mode operation that reduces resolution to 3K while doubling the refresh rate to 330Hz, catering to competitive gamers prioritizing frame rates for titles like Counter-Strike 2.

The announcement includes three additional models utilizing QD-OLED, W-OLED, and IPS LCD panel technologies, offering gamers various options across different price points and feature sets. This move positions Samsung competitively against LG, which recently unveiled the industry’s first 1080p 1000Hz monitor.

While the 6K flagship model offers an impressive specification sheet combining ultra-high resolution with fast refresh rates, some users may note the absence of a Mini LED backlight system, which could impact HDR performance compared to alternatives featuring such technology.
