Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward is getting adapted into a TV series

Brandon Sanderson’s science fiction novel Skyward is being adapted into a television series by Tomorrow Studios, the production company behind Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation. The young adult story, which is part of Sanderson’s Cytoverse—a collection comprising four novels plus novellas and short stories—will be developed for television alongside its sequels.

The narrative follows a teenager who aspires to become a pilot in order to defend humanity during an ongoing war. This adaptation announcement reflects continued momentum in bringing Sanderson’s literary works to screen. The prolific author previously signed a deal with Apple TV in January to adapt his expansive Cosmere universe across multiple television projects.

The Skyward adaptation joins other Sanderson projects in development, including a Mistborn film that the author indicates is following the “James Gunn model”—a reference to an approach to cinematic storytelling and direction. These announcements underscore Sanderson’s growing presence in entertainment adaptation, building on his substantial fanbase and the increasing demand for book-to-screen adaptations across streaming platforms.
