AMD Reportedly Prepping Cheaper Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU, Could Discontinue 7800X3D

AMD is reportedly developing a more affordable variant of its popular X3D processor line with the Ryzen 7 7700X3D. According to hardware leaker chi11eddog, the new processor will feature 8 cores, 16 threads, and 96MB of L3 cache with a 120W TDP. The 7700X3D will have a base clock of 4.0GHz and boost clock of 4.5GHz, making it slightly slower than the current Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which operates at 4.2GHz base and 5.0GHz boost.

The development comes as AMD’s X3D chips have become increasingly popular with PC gamers. According to Digital Foundry’s recent poll, approximately 40 percent of Ryzen CPU owners opted for a Ryzen 5000X3D, 7000X3D, or 9000X3D-series processor over cheaper non-X3D alternatives, demonstrating strong consumer demand for X3D technology. The X3D cache architecture provides significant performance advantages in gaming workloads compared to standard processors.

The introduction of the 7700X3D could potentially lead to the discontinuation of the 7800X3D model, suggesting AMD is committing to making 3D V-Cache technology more accessible to mainstream gamers at competitive price points while streamlining its product lineup.
