AMD is investing $10 billion+ into Taiwan tech to ‘accelerate next-gen AI infrastructure’, with some fancy new toys on the way

AMD announced a substantial investment of more than $10 billion into Taiwan’s semiconductor and artificial intelligence ecosystem. The investment is designed to expand strategic partnerships and scale advanced packaging facilities for AI infrastructure development.

A significant portion of the capital will be directed toward developing next-generation interconnect technology to support AMD’s Venice CPUs. The company is collaborating with ASE (Advanced Semiconductor Engineering) and Silicon Precision Industries on this initiative, with a focus on creating wafer-based, 2.5D bridge technology. This advanced packaging approach is intended to improve interconnect capabilities needed for next-generation AI infrastructure and semiconductor solutions.

The announcement underscores continued major capital deployment in AI infrastructure, as semiconductor companies compete to develop the advanced manufacturing technologies and packaging solutions required for cutting-edge AI applications. AMD’s investment represents a significant commitment to Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem and reflects the growing importance of advanced packaging and interconnect technologies in supporting the computational demands of modern AI workloads.
