I played Boltgun 2 and it’s sick

Boltgun 2, the sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, is shaping up to be an excellent follow-up to the original throwback first-person shooter. The game maintains the series’ successful balance between modern convenience and ’90s sensibilities that defined the original.

The sequel expands on the formula with notable additions: more weapons, more biomes, and most significantly, two playable protagonists instead of one. Players select their character at the start of a playthrough, and this choice has meaningful impact on gameplay. The expansion from one to two playable characters doubles the potential gameplay variety and replayability.

Developed by Auroch Digital, Boltgun 2 continues the studio’s commitment to the boomer shooter style that has seen a resurgence in recent years. Rather than dramatically reinventing the formula, the sequel focuses on escalation—enhancing what worked in the original game with more content and options. Given that the original Boltgun was considered nearly perfect in its execution of the throwback FPS style, this measured approach of refinement and expansion appears to be paying off, positioning Boltgun 2 as a strong sequel to an already well-regarded game.
