Red Dead Redemption 2 Overtakes Wii Sports in Best-Selling Games of All Time List

Red Dead Redemption 2 has reached a major milestone, becoming the third best-selling game of all time with 85 million copies sold as of March 2026. The western action-adventure game has surpassed Wii Sports in sales figures, maintaining strong commercial momentum nearly eight years after its 2018 launch.

Rockstar Games’ masterpiece achieved its strongest annual sales performance in the past year, selling more copies in the last 12 months than in any comparable period since its original release. This sustained success underscores the enduring appeal of the expansive open-world experience and its robust online multiplayer ecosystem.

While impressive, Red Dead Redemption 2’s 85 million sales remain substantially behind Grand Theft Auto V, which has accumulated 230 million copies sold globally. GTA V’s continued dominance reflects its status as a cultural phenomenon and the longevity of its online platform since 2013.

Despite the game’s continued financial success and active player base, Rockstar Games has declined to release a 60fps performance patch for modern console versions, a decision that has frustrated the community. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S continue to request enhanced performance options, viewing the lack of optimization as a missed opportunity given current-generation hardware capabilities and industry standards.
