Crazy Taxi Social Media Account Shares New Teaser
Sega has reignited excitement for Crazy Taxi with the first social media post from the franchise’s official accounts in seven years. On May 21, 2026, the Crazy Taxi X account shared a five-second teaser video showing the iconic yellow taxi’s roof light flickering to life—a deliberate nod to the series’ signature visual. This marks a significant milestone in the anticipated revival of the classic arcade franchise that debuted in 1999.
The teaser arrives nearly three years after Sega officially announced the Crazy Taxi reboot during The Game Awards in 2023. The revival, being developed by Sega’s Sapporo Studio (established in December 2021), has been described as a “triple-A” experience featuring “massively multiplayer driving” gameplay—a substantial departure from the original arcade formula. Since the last Crazy Taxi release, Crazy Taxi Tycoon, was delisted in April 2020, this new entry represents a major return for the franchise.
This revival is part of Sega’s broader initiative to resurrect classic franchises under its newly established Sega Universe branding. The publisher has previously confirmed plans to revive multiple legacy IPs including Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage, marking an ambitious investment in nostalgic gaming properties. The timing of this teaser comes after Sega’s recent cancellation of its “Super Game” project, yet the company has reaffirmed its commitment to these heritage franchise revivals as part of its long-term portfolio strategy.
