Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch Announced at Warhammer Skulls 2026
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch has been officially announced at Warhammer Skulls 2026. The turn-based tactics game is developed by Complex Games, the studio behind the acclaimed 2022 predecessor Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, and published by Frontier. While the game is confirmed for PC and console platforms, no specific release window has been provided.
The new entry in the franchise will focus on the Deathwatch, a unique faction of Space Marines within the Warhammer 40,000 universe known for their specialization in fighting alien threats. Unlike standard Space Marine chapters, the Deathwatch comprises veteran Marines from various chapters, each displaying their original chapter colors on their right pauldron while bearing the signature Deathwatch colors on their left.
This sequel comes nearly three decades after the original 1998 Chaos Gate, which pioneered turn-based tactical gameplay featuring the Ultramarines against Chaos forces. The 2022 reboot, Daemonhunters, modernized the formula with inspiration drawn from XCOM 2, replacing the original’s X-COM influence with a contemporary tactical approach centered on the psychic-focused Grey Knights.
A significant improvement in the upcoming sequel is expanded enemy variety. Where Daemonhunters relied heavily on daemon enemies following the tutorial, Deathwatch will feature seven distinctive enemy factions, providing substantially more diverse tactical encounters. This directly addresses one of the previous game’s main criticisms regarding limited opponent variety.
The announcement reinforces Frontier’s ongoing commitment to the Warhammer 40,000 gaming portfolio. With a debut trailer now available, fans of tactical strategy games and the Warhammer universe have their first glimpse at what the Deathwatch experience will deliver.
