Last Flag studio lays off half its employees as it puts ’the future of the game in the hands of our players'
Night Street Games, developer of the CTF shooter Last Flag, has laid off approximately half of its workforce. The studio announced it will no longer pursue future development of the game, instead pivoting to a free-to-play model and positioning itself as community-driven, putting “the future of the game in the hands of our players.”
Last Flag initially drew attention due to its high-profile founders: Mac and Dan Reynolds of the band Imagine Dragons. Despite receiving positive reviews from outlets including PC Gamer, the game failed to build a sustainable player base—a common challenge in the crowded competitive shooter market.
The decision reflects broader struggles within live-service gaming, where even well-funded projects with notable backing can struggle to achieve commercial viability. Night Street Games’ shift toward free-to-play and community-driven development suggests an attempt to preserve rather than abandon the title, though the substantial staff reductions indicate significantly scaled-back investment and resources.
