Price rises? What price rises? Nintendo reportedly ramping up Switch 2 production, aiming to produce 20 million consoles by March 2027

Nintendo is ramping up Switch 2 production significantly, planning to manufacture 20 million units by the end of its fiscal year (March 2027), according to a Bloomberg report. This represents a 20% increase from the 16.5 million consoles the company forecast in its previous financial report.

The production boost comes on the heels of impressive first-year sales figures. The Switch 2 sold 19.86 million units during its launch year, exceeding Nintendo’s own expectations. The company had originally forecasted only 15 million units for the launch period before revising that estimate upward to 19 million as the console’s popularity became apparent.

Notably, Nintendo is pursuing this aggressive production increase despite implementing a controversial price hike for the Switch 2 in major markets including the United States, Canada, Japan, and Europe. Industry analysts suggest this move reflects Nintendo’s confidence in the console’s continued demand and follows the company’s established pattern of conservative forecasting followed by upward revisions. With the Switch 2’s strong market reception and the planned production expansion, Nintendo appears positioned to maintain strong sales momentum.
