Ubisoft has staff for ‘70 Warhorse-sized studios’ after cuts, says Kingdom Come director—‘That could be 10 KCD2-sized games… released every year’

Ubisoft has significantly reduced its workforce through a restructuring program announced at the beginning of 2025. The company eliminated approximately 1,200 positions through voluntary reductions and layoffs, bringing its total staff count to around 16,600 employees. The restructuring also included project cancellations and consideration of generative AI implementation.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance director Daniel Vávra commented on the situation via social media, noting that despite the substantial layoffs, Ubisoft still maintains a workforce equivalent to approximately 70 Warhorse Studios-sized teams. Vávra suggested this could theoretically enable the production of ten Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2-scale games annually. His commentary highlights the significant scale at which major AAA publishers operate compared to mid-sized independent studios, even after substantial staff reductions.
